The Flowers of ZBT

The
Flower of ZBT tradition was established many years ago and has
been a very important tradition held at ZBT. It is our way of showing
thanks and support for the many ladies that help out with ZBT activities
as much as some of our brothers, whether it is being supportive, making
us tasty deserts, or helping us in recruitment. This honor shows our
appreciation for these girls and their kindness to our brotherhood.
The girls are selected by the brothers and are honored for their
contributions to the brotherhood. Also, many Flowers of ZBT are
asked to attend our graduation banquet at the end of the
year when they are seniors.
National Convention

The Lambda Chapter delegates at the Formal Banquet Dinner on the last night of Convention.
Each summer at least two delegates are sent to ZBT's National
Convention. The convention each year is held in a different city
somewhere in the United States. Below is a partial list of where
the convention has been held in the past.
- 2007 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- 2006 - Los Angeles, California
- 2005 - Orlando, Florida
This meeting is held over a weekend in the summer a majority of
the 80 chapters and colonies of ZBT attend this convention.
Regional Conclave
Each year at least four delegates are sent to ZBT's Midwest
Regional Conclave in Indianapolis, Indiana. This meeting is held
to help develop the up and coming leaders of ZBT. This meeting is held over
a weekend and always involves other ZBT chapters from schools such as
University of Illinois, University of Texas, Ohio State University,
University of Michigan, and Washington University in St. Louis to name a few.
GREEK WEEK 2006

ZBT Greek Sing 2006
This year was a phenomenal year for ZBT in Greek Week. The
theme of a One Hit Wonder Greek Week was not widely accepted by the Greek
community, but it didn't hold back the Zebes. Greek Week was kicked off
by a comedian at Greek III discussing how to address your chapter's idiot.
The first day of actual competition we won both events, Greek Sing and
Rootbeer Chug. In Greek Sing, we sang our own rendition of Marc Cohn's
"Walking in Memphis," entitled "Walking on Campus."
Scott Hansen coached Greek Sing. Jimmy Ehret led the Chug team to a victory.
These two victories threw us far ahead of the competition and kept us
determined the whole week.
The second day of competition included the Banner and Variety
Show competitions. Our banner of carnival games, including a strong-man
hammer and plinko board, won 4th place. Unfortunately, our variety show
did not place, but it definitely was accepted by the crowd with laughter.
Friday, the third day of competition, included Spot shot and the swimming
events. We pulled off a second place in spot shot. We also placed 3rd
and 4th in the Beach Ball and Raft Race relays, respectively.
The weekend of intense competition ensued. The philanthropic
event, Can Castle, started bright and early on Saturday morning. We received
1st place for our amount of cans donated and our creative design incorporating
the one hit wonder, "Blue" by Eiffel 65. The food bank we were
donating these cans to was also chaired by one of our brothers from the
Nu Chapter of the Ohio State University. Saturday concluded with our 4th
place in Pyramid, which is respectable since we still uphold the ZBT tradition
of building tall.

Ronnie Modica ('00) coaching the Rope Pull team
Going into the final day of Rope Pull, we were only four points away
from first place. We were determined to win even more than ever. Ronnie
Modica ('00) and Mike Lowry ('00), recent alumni of our chapter, led the
Rope Pull team to its third victory in four years. This victory was more
of a blowout as a result of our long training, determination, and skill
in this event. Each pull has a round time of ten minutes, but none of
our pulls lasted that long. First round we received a bye since we were
defending champions. The second round we had to compete against Sigma
Nu, who was only 3 points ahead of us in the overal standings for Greek
Week. We were able to rip them in under two minutes solidifying our second
place finish in Greek Week.
After this pull, we knew if SigEp lost to Sigma Chi in the semifinals
we would win Greek Week. Unfortuantely, we had to watch the battle instead
of it being in our hands, and SigEp defeated Sigma Chi to advance to the
semifinals. In our semifinal round, we were again able to rip SAE in less
than three minutes.
At this point, we were aware that we would lose Greek Week by one point
even if we won Rope Pull but that never held us back. We went into the
final round determined to defend our championship title. In the final
round, everyone was of course chanting, "ZBT, ZBT, ZBT!" This
support allowed us to rip SigEp in the final round in 2:15 and to continue
as Rope Pull champions for another year.
Many alumni coached and attended the Greek Week events,
and we would like to thank all of them for their participation and leadership.
Greek Week was a proud week to be a Zebe!
Annual Brotherhood Retreat
For the past few years, we have ventured to
Hocking Hills State Park
in South Central Ohio for our annual brotherhood retreat.
The majority of the brothers ventured down a three mile
trail from
Old Man's Cave.
After hiking, we returned to our cabins and continued to
embrace our brotherhood through a discussion of the changes we would
like to see in our chapter. This was a very powerful
discussion led by the Executive Committee and a group of the seniors.
Many brothers, especially freshmen, felt they had grown from this experience
and knowledge.
ZBT Formal
Formal in Fall 2005 was held close to the house at the Botanical
Gardens. All the brothers had a great time, and it was nice that the gardens
were actually open to walk through when someone needed a break from dancing.
Spring Formal 2006 was on a boat, Nautica Queen,
that departed from the Flats and drove us along the city of Cleveland
on the lake. Everyone was able to enjoy the sunset while they ate their
meal and then of course everyone enjoyed a bit of dancing.
Annual Brotherhood Ski Trip
Every winter the brothers of ZBT with a group
of their close friends have ventured to a ski resort over winter break
to enjoy some skiing and/or snowboarding. One of the more common retreat
destinations is
Mont Tremblant in Canada. Mont Tremblant is about
an hour north of Montreal. Even though it was very cold up in the Great
White North, the brothers plan to return to Mont Tremblant again!
Annual Paintball Brotherhood Event

ZBT Paintball 2005
Every fall, the brothers of ZBT go paintballing with some
close friends and girlfriends. Each year over sixty people go out for
this event. It has become tradition for the Freshman and Sophomore brothers
to face the Junior and Seniors in capture flag on each course. The event
then concludes with a speedball match for only the brave. It is always
a good time and a special thanks goes out to Chris Dolwick ('93) for setting
up this event every year.
